The Heritage Trail
Harriman, Monroe, Chester and Goshen

"The Heritage Trail is a 10-foot wide trail on the right-of-way of the former Erie Railroad. The trail extends from the City of Middletown to the Village of Harriman and features sections of both asphalt and limestone surface. The current 19.5 mile trail winds through a bird/wildlife sanctuary, historic landmarks, murmuring streams, rolling meadows and friendly communities. Trail users may enjoy biking, walking, rollerblading, nature study as well as shopping and dining in the local villages. During winter months the trail is not plowed and when snow conditions allow, is available for cross county ski and snowshoe usage. Access points are in Harriman, Monroe, Chester and Goshen, all with convenient parking."

Harriman State Park has 27 miles of scenic parkway within its boundary lines. Cycling is popular in the park with thousands of cyclists each year taking advantage of the well-maintained roads. The park is home to the CRCA Bear Mountain Classic bike race, a 14 mile loop raced entirely within Harriman. A popular entrance into Harriman, by way of Seven Lakes Drive, lies within the village of Sloatsburg, NY where cyclists can find a variety of dining options such as Character's, Seven Lakes Station, Valley Rock Inn, Village Blend Cafe, Taco Turnpike, Spring Street Deli and Pizza Pit.

Park & Bike - Parking in Sloatsburg is available on Weekends in the commuter lot in front of Village Blend Cafe. From the parking lot, the entrance of Harriman State Park is within just 1.5 miles. Parking is also available at the Reeve's Meadow visitor center.

Cyclists can take NJ Transit trains to Suffern, Sloatsburg, Tuxedo, Harriman and beyond giving easy access into the Hudson Valley and surrounding state parks.​
